Personal computers use more energy than all other desktop and office equipment combined. Fortunately, we can reduce this waste through the use of ENERGY STAR, which can turn off your monitor, your computer's most consuming component, during idle time. To easily activate the ENERGY STAR capabilities of your system, run the EZ Wizard. If you aren't already using ENERGY STAR, the program will ask if you want to activate it. If you do, it then will ask how long you want your system to sit idle before it goes to sleep; you can choose 10, 15, or 20 minutes.  Ez wizard and acpi.Since some weeks my system did not properly go into standby anymore, the hd's shut off but all ventilators kept buzzing. Looking for a program for powermanagement I googled to ez wizzard. It seemed like a fairly simple program and to be honest, I don't know if ez wizzard did the trick, nothing happened at first and you can't "see" or determine which parameters are affected and I fumbled around with energy -schemes as well. However the system is back to normal now. A program that monitors (for instance to show which piece of hardware prevents a certain sleep -mode etc.) and controls different acpi -states would be very usefull I think. Thanks and greetings!
